ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE

Transformational Model of Science Engagement

The Ontario Science Centre extends an invitation for people to be transformed through science: to discover and explore their abilities and passions, to build the skills that enable them to thrive, and to work on collaborations that will inspire a lifetime of curiosity and creativity.

What follows is a framework of delivering the value of transformation to individuals, communities, institutions, and society as a whole.

SERVICE DESIGN STRATEGY, BRAND STRATEGY & NARRATIVE, BRAND GUIDELINES

Constructed in 1966, the Ontario Science Centre was designed by Toronto architect Raymond Moriyama to be Canada’s first hands-on science museum. Over time the museum became quintessential to every Canadian childhood experience. Interactive exhibits were only the beginning; Ontario Science Centre (OSC) became an important institution for innovation, championing a way forward through passion.

Fast forward to today, OSC is a 21st century industry leader offering outdoor and indoor viewing galleries, educational workshops for children, a science arcade, a planetarium, and an innovation centre.

OSC needed a coherent communication and organizational transformation. This would represent a collective effort to create a greater sense of coherence for the museum. This transformation would welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests while introducing itself to a new generation.

We created a brand guideline embodying eight ethoses. This guideline embraced a mindset that enables each person in the organization to excel in its daily activities. It also cultivates a sense of accountability to their customers, partners, and to each other.

OSC invited me and a team at Idea Couture to design a strategic model to help shed light on science, technology, and innovation through high-quality interactions and a laser-like focus aimed at providing their customers truly transformational experiences. We worked across multiple complex communications and touchpoints across different teams.

Every part of the strategic model contributes to this focus on transformation.

The transformation model of Science Engagement became the strategic platform, a north star for the organization across every team at the OSC. This model was architected with OSC’s amazing team under the helm of its CEO, Maurice Bitran.

I was honored to work with the remarkable team at OSC and to play a part of the museum’s continued legacy.
